Birds, birds everywhere

We had the most wonderful vacation in Florida this summer. My sister lives in this little pond community and my favorite thing was watching all the wildlife. It was amazing. The Egret above is named Erwin and he follows my brother in law around like a puppy dog. He knocks on the door with his beak to tell them he's hungry! They had a feeder laden with beautiful wild parrots. The tropical flowers were over the top, but I was so busy shooting birds. My family counted...I took 42 shots of different birds...

Hi Chris - it's so good to see a post from you and know you're busy but okay ;-]

What cool birds you saw -the idea of a pet egret boggles the mind! That setting along the water is just beautiful.

I have to ditto Annie. I was shocked when I came here for the latest post and realized how long it had been since you last posted.

Nice to see you.

Hi Annie and Mr. BT. Good to "see" you guys! YOu know, time just gets away. I fully to reenter the gardening world in afew short weeks when it cools down. Until then, I will enjoy your blogs.

Ooooooooh! Egrets are among the most beatiful birds I know - it's so cool with a tame one. Sure beats my half tame jack daw I had when I was a teenager.

Wow, 42 different birds? That's great! We saw our first great egret when we were in southwestern Kentucky last week. We'd seen them in photos, but never live.

Hi Rosengeranium and GW!
During my blogging hiatus, I forgot how fun interacting with other bloggers was. Egrets ARE amazing. Until this visit to my sister's home, I'd never seen one. She sent me pics and I thought they were cool, esp. this guy, but it's a whole 'nother walk in the park to see him following Ron around like a puppy. Erwin has a girlfriend (at least this is the what they think!) who follows Erwin to the house, but she's more timid and won't come up to them. When Erwin's hungry, Ron casts a net to give him a buffet of tiny little tilapia fish. He calls them a nuisance fish. To think what we pay for those fish in Dallas....

Oh, I know! Tilapia is expensive here, too, though not as bad as salmon, orange roughy, etc. We're pretty land-locked in Ohio. I'd love to be able to cast a net and bring in my supper that easily. I brought some little crayfish back from Kentucky, but they're for pets, not snacks. Our Australian red claw crayfish is eating size, but we'll keep her. ;)

It's a good thing Erwin is pretty tame, with that long beak and all. LOL

Surprisingly, I see Egrets on a pond near my house here is Arizona. Yesterday there were about 22 of them. Occasionally, a pelican will blow in on a high wind. Unfortunately, they usually don't make it unless rescued.

What beautiful birds. We have a large variety of birds in Texas as well. I have a post on my blog highlighting a small but old Texas City. My blog is similar, I love nature and gardening. Sounds like you've been having a wonderful summer!

Egret becoming a pet and thus having a name is very rare and definitely very exiting....

Excellent pictures. Beautiful lake. That's the kind of place you where you just want to sit outside and enjoy the weather and nature.
